Youth Net and Counselling (YONECO) is a local NGO that is committed to empowering youth, women and children, preventing the spread of HIV infection, mitigating the impact of AIDS, promoting democracy and human rights and conducting research youth, women and children development. YONECO vision is a self reliant HIV and AIDS free society that respects democratic values and principles. YONECO works with both local and international NGOs and donors, government departments and Community based organizations. YONECO has programmes and projects in Zomba, Mchinji, Ntchisi, Mulanje, Thyolo, Phalombe, Chiradzulu, Mangochi, Machinga, Balaka, Ntcheu, Nkhata Bay and Rumphi. YONECO also has national programmes like the first ever Child Helpline in Malawi for the protection and promotion of child rights.  YONECO now invites applications from suitably qualified, dynamic and experienced persons to the fill the following positions which exist at YONECO Head Office in Zomba.


Purpose of the Positions

  • Community Nurse:

The community nurse serves patients by visiting homes; determining patient and family needs; developing health care plans; providing nursing services and treatments; referring patients with social and emotional problems to other community agencies, helps the community health care team by coordinating assessment, planning, and providing of needed health and related services; participating in case conferences with physicians, hospital and rehabilitative personnel, and representative of other agencies, provides health information by instructing family in care and rehabilitation of patient; maintaining health and prevention of disease for family members; teaching home nursing, maternal and child care; providing instructions in other subjects related to individual and community welfare, safeguards health of children by participating in child health conferences, school health; providing group instruction for parents; conducting immunization programs, arranges convalescent and rehabilitative care of sick or injured persons by cooperating with families, community agencies, and medical personnel.


Diploma or degree in nursing, registered by the nurses council of Malawi. At three years in community health programmes and knowledge of mental health will be an added advantage. Good oral and written communication skills (English and Chichewa). Computer literacy is a must in particularly use of MS windows, word, excel PowerPoint and outlook.

  • Project Officer:

The Project Officer provides technical input to field facilitators and advice to the District Coordinator on all technical issues related to the project. The major areas managed are: Project implementation, project monitoring and evaluation, research, and reporting.


Diploma or higher in development-related fields such as Community Development, Education, Rural Development, Public Health, Agriculture, Environment/Natural Resources, with not less than 2 years’ field experience. Good written and oral communication skills

  • Field Officers – Helpline Services:

The Field Officer facilitates and/or implements project activities in women and children programmes in YONECO. The major areas of responsibility are: Counselling of young people in face to face counselling, gender based violence counselling, on line counselling, case follow ups, project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, documentation and data collection and management.


Minimum diploma in relevant development-related field such as Community Development, Education, Rural Development, Health, Agriculture, and Environment/Natural Resources, or Malawi School Certificate; Good written and oral communication skills preferably in English; Good interpersonal skills and self-management skills.
