On 3 March 2025, the UNFPA Resident Representative to Malawi, Nelida Rodrigues visited Safe Space mentors in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Bwananyambi in Mangochi district.
During the visit, Nelida Rodrigues encouraged the mentors to continue supporting adolescent girls and young women who are challenged by multidimensional harmful sociocultural norms that perpetuate Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
With support from UNFPA, YONECO trained a total of 50 Safe Space mentors who are creating inclusive and empowering sociocultural environments for young women and adolescent girls in their designated areas across Mangochi district. The trained mentors have been key in making GBV case referrals, facilitating group activities, and collecting feedback that informs programming.
