On 15 August 2025, #YONECO, in collaboration with the Community Development Office, conducted a learning visit at Malemia in Chikwawa to promote knowledge exchange among members of Community Savings and Investment Promotion (#COMSIP) groups, and Savings and Loan Groups (#SLGs).
The activity, that was conducted under the SP GEAR Project, brought together participants from Zathu Zomwe Cluster in T/A Malemia and members of Tiyanjane, Tidalirane, and Titukuke from the area of T/A Ndamera.
Zathu Zomwe Cluster shared their journey, which commenced with the Malawi Social Action Fund (MASAF), where members began saving part of their K28,400 cash transfers. Currently, the group has saved over K6 million since January 2025. The group runs poultry and irrigation projects and plan to venture into goat, pig, and dairy farming.
The SLGs that were established through the SP GEAR Project also reported positive progress. Titukuke group runs a soap-making business and has saved K2.4 million. Tiyanjane and Tidalirane are also involved in soap production, while members operate small businesses like fish, maize, and vegetable sales.
The SP-GEAR (Amayi Titukuke!) project, is being implemented by the Government with tailored support from #YONECO. The project is being funded by the European Union in Malawi and Ireland through UNICEF Malawi.
