In a bid to promote inclusive development in Chikwawa district, #YONECO has trained Child Protection Workers, Community Development Assistants, and Agriculture Extension Development Officers in the effective implementation of Gender Transformative Approaches (#GTA) using the Umodzi Model.
The two-day training sessions were conducted in the areas of Traditional Authorities (T/As) Ngabu and Chapananga in the district, attended by a total of 56 extension workers.
These training sessions were conducted under the SP-GEAR Project in collaboration with implementing government departments, including the Social Welfare Office and the Gender and Community Development Office.
The sessions featured lessons on joint planning and decision-making at the household level using the door-to-door approach (Ulangizi wa khomo ndi khomo). This component is expected to contribute towards ensuring that women benefiting from the Social Cash Transfer Programme are able to make decisions and have equal opportunities.
The participants developed action plans aimed at spearheading the process of transforming social norms and promoting gender empowerment activities in their designated areas.
