YONECO conducted a mental health awareness session with Peer Educators (PEs) at Ntaja Trading Centre in Machinga district to address the rising mental health challenges among the youth in the area.
The session explored key causes, such as academic pressure, unemployment, family issues, and substance abuse. Participants discussed the impacts of these factors, including low self-esteem, poor academic performance, social withdrawal, and suicidal thoughts.
The facilitators emphasized on the importance of early recognition of symptoms and encouraged healthy coping mechanisms such as physical activity, social engagement, and seeking support.
Participants committed to promoting mental health awareness among their peers to help reduce stigma and support affected young people.
