On 21 August 2025, YONECO conducted a sensitization session on intra-household decision-making for Savings and Loans Group (#SLG) members under Traditional Authority (T/A) Ndanga, Mulanje district.

The session focused on promoting gender equality and financial transparency in households, emphasizing the importance of shared decision-making between spouses, especially in managing SLG-related income and family resources.

Facilitators underscored that involving both men and women in financial decisions leads to better resource utilization and family well-being. Participants were urged to treat family assets as jointly owned and to make collaborative decisions that reflect the needs of the entire household.

YONECO highlighted that equal participation fosters trust, accountability, and economic resilience. The initiative forms part of the organization’s broader community empowerment efforts to improve household stability and promote gender equity.

The activity was conducted under Social Protection for Gender Empowerment and Resilience (SP-GEAR) Project which is supporting the implementation of the Malawi National Social Protection Strategy (MNSPS).

The project is being implemented in Mzimba, Ntcheu, Balaka, Chikwawa, Mulanje, Mwanza, Neno, Nsanje and Zomba with financial support from the Malawi government, the European Union in Malawi, UNICEF Malawi and the Government of Ireland.
