On 27 August 2025, YONECO successfully concluded a series of refresher training courses for teachers from the first cohort of schools where the implementation of the Building Education Foundations through Innovation and Technology (BEFIT) Programme began.
The training sessions were conducted as part of the programme’s transition phase, which was scheduled two years after the initial rollout in some schools across Rumphi and Chitipa.
The refresher training sessions aimed to reinforce the programme’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reorient teachers on their roles, highlighting various important factors, including safeguarding issues.
Teachers who attended the training expressed appreciation for the opportunity to revisit the dos and don’ts of the programme and reaffirmed their commitment to delivering inclusive, safe, and quality education.
The Building Education Foundations through Innovation and Technology (BEFIT) is a government of Malawi-owned and led programme. The programme aims to enhance foundational literacy and numeracy skills among learners in Standards 1 to 4 across all public primary schools in Malawi through supplemental, individualized, self-paced instruction delivered via specialized apps on Android tablets.
