From 3 to 5 September 2025, YONECO managed to train members of 20 Savings and Loans Group (SLGs) for women and the youth from the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mposa in Machinga district.
The training, that was held from 3 to 5 September 2025, aim to improve financial literacy and promote a culture of saving and investing.
The training session was conducted under ‘Making Communities Resilient to Climate Change-Induced Health Challenges’ project which YONECO is implementing in Zomba and Machinga with financial support from Foundation S.
Climate change has negatively impacted livelihoods in the area through erratic weather, poor harvests and increased health risks, leaving many women and youth vulnerable to poverty and illness.
By encouraging a culture of savings and providing access to loans, Savings and Loans Groups (SLGs) empower participants to invest in climate-resilient livelihoods, such as small-scale businesses and drought-tolerant crops.
