On 14 October 2025, YONECO held a Gender-Based Violence (#GBV) and Sexual Reproductive Health (#SRH) awareness session at Nkhandwe Secondary School in Machinga district as part of the ongoing efforts to promote the wellbeing of young people.
The session focused on different forms of violence, including physical and verbal abuse, and how such experiences can negatively affect young people’s mental health. The students were encouraged to speak out and report any incidents of violence to YONECO offices or through the organization’s toll-free helplines.
Facilitators also discussed the importance of practicing safe sex and highlighted the role of condoms in preventing sexually transmitted infections and unplanned pregnancies. Students were informed that they can visit YONECO offices to access condoms or seek guidance on other youth-related issues.
Teachers and learners commended the initiative and described it as timely and informative.
Through such engagement sessions, YONECO continues to equip adolescents and young people with knowledge and practical tools to safeguard their health, rights, and overall wellbeing.
