YONECO has concluded an orientation session for Peer Educators in Dedza District, equipping them with digital skills to promote Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (#SRHR) among young people in their communities.

The training focused on helping the youth create and manage online groups, channels, and forums across various digital platforms as a way of sharing SRHR information responsibly and effectively.

The session brought together Peer Educators from the areas of Traditional Authorities (T/As) Kaphuka, Chilikumwendo, and Kachere. A similar exercise was also carried out in Mchinji District, reaching Peer Educators from T/A Zulu, Mduwa, Mkanda, Mulonyeni, and Mavwere.

The orientation is among the activities which YONECO is implementing under the Addressing Challenges to Adolescent Girls’ Empowerment through Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (ACE) Project, which is being funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and UNFPA.

Speaking after the session, Peer Educator Gift Njazi from T/A Kaphuka expressed appreciation for the training, saying it had opened their eyes to new ways of reaching young people.
“We have been technically empowered on how to use digital platforms ethically and effectively to share #SRHR information with our peers,” Njazi said.

As part of the exercise, the participants developed work plans outlining how they intend to use social media to raise awareness, encourage dialogue, and promote positive health behaviors among youth in their respective areas.
