Counsellors from the Tithandizane Helpline Services of YONECO held a mental health awareness session with young people at the Zomba Central Hospital’s Youth Friendly Health Services (YFHS) Corner.
During the discussion, the young people identified academic pressure, family conflicts, relationship challenges, and unemployment as some of the leading factors contributing to mental health issues among the youth.
The session focused on helping participants understand mental health and learn practical coping mechanisms for managing stress and anxiety.
Facilitators also shared information on where young people can access mental health support, including the Tithandizane National Helpline Services, where they can seek assistance either by visiting as walk-in clients or by calling the department’s toll-free numbers.
In total, the session reached 33 participants, of whom 18 were boys and 15 were girls.
