YONECO officers in Mulanje have conducted spot awareness sessions with Taxi Bicycle Operators (TBOs) around Mulanje Boma, focusing on the prevention of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

The sessions aimed to engage one of the most mobile and hard-to-reach groups in the community due to the nature of their work, which involves travelling long distances daily.

During the discussions, participants shared their views and experiences on GBV. Some operators expressed concerns about perceived bias in how GBV cases are handled.

The session encouraged participants to become champions of gender equality and positive behavior change within their communities. Many of the TBOs said the discussions helped them reflect on how their daily interactions can either fuel or prevent violence.

“This session has opened our eyes. We now understand that showing respect to women and girls makes our homes and workplaces safer,” shared another participant.

The awareness campaign concluded with a collective call to action for all community members to unite in the fight against gender-based violence and to ensure that everyone; men, women, and children are free from fear and harm.
