YONECO conducted an engaging session on Psychology and Music, focusing on how sound and rhythm connect to human emotions at the organization’s Youth Drop-in Centre (DIC) located at in Zomba.
During the interactive activity, young participants practiced instruments such as the guitar, drums, and piano before demonstrating emotions without using words. The exercise revealed how music serves as a universal language for expressing and understanding feelings.
In one group exercise, two teams acted out emotions, with one showing happiness and the other portraying a blend of sadness and anger. This sparked meaningful discussions on emotional intelligence and how children express emotions differently based on their experiences.
The learners also performed two songs, conveying passion and emotion through music. They discussed how various instruments can evoke different moods and how music can be both a creative outlet and a potential career path.
Facilitators emphasized that music helps people recognize, express, and manage their emotions, which are key aspects of emotional intelligence. The session highlighted music’s powerful role in shaping emotional growth and mental well-being among young people.
