YONECO is delighted to welcome six interns to the organisation’s District Office in Rumphi, where they will further their academic and professional development. Here are the introductions of the four interns:
Asayile Chiwale is a third-year Social Science student at the University of Malawi (UNIMA). He joins YONECO as a practicum student, contributing to women empowerment initiatives and case management activities. Asayile is a strong advocate of feminist theories and firmly believes in equality for all, justice for women, and the importance of addressing gender disparities.
Ivy Nyirongo, who holds a Diploma in Nutrition, Food Security, and Sustainable Development from Domasi Development College, has joined YONECO as a Women and Gender Programme Intern. Ivy is actively involved in women’s rights advocacy, gender equality promotion, and supporting women’s economic empowerment. She has already gained practical skills in case management, facilitation, documentation, and communication.
Owen Nkhata, a third-year Social Work student at the University of Malawi, is currently interning at YONECO until December 2025. His work involves applying theoretical knowledge to practical social work, including community sensitization, case assessments, psychosocial support, youth empowerment, and report writing. Owen aims to become a skilled social worker committed to promoting social justice, empowerment, and community well-being.
Wisdom Thulu, also a third-year Social Work student at the University of Malawi, is attached to the Rumphi office as a Social Work Intern. His role involves supporting child protection initiatives, case management activities, and engaging with children, families, and communities to ensure safety and wellbeing. He believes that “every act of care strengthens communities and empowers the most vulnerable.”
Morick Mbeyo is a third-year Social Work student at the University of Malawi and has joined YONECO as an intern at their District Office in Rumphi. In this role, he is involved in child protection programmes, case management, and the promotion of human rights.
Lucy Mkolongo is an Early Childhood Development intern at YONECO. She has recently completed her Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Development from Malawi Assemblies of God University (MAGU). In her role, she supports early learning activities, child protection initiatives, and community awareness on child rights and care.
YONECO anticipates the positive contributions that the six interns will make during their internship.
