#YONECO with support from UN Women under the Sustaining Community Women Movement for Peace Building and Humanitarian Response project, is this week conducting community football drills in the areas of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kaduya and Nkumba in Phalombe district.
Through these sessions, #YONECO is spreading messages of peace building and conflict resolution, humanitarian work, and gender equality, among others.
Speaking at the event today, Headteacher for Matawa Primary School Dickson Kachepa said the delivery of the messages through the sessions is crucial, especially at this time when the government and organizations are disbursing humanitarian aid in various communities.
“Despite the goodwill behind aid, it can sometimes be a breed of conflict; hence we appreciate the messages that #YONECO is disseminating through these football drills that we believe can curb such conflicts in the event of their occurrence,” he said.
The sessions that are being delivered by trained coaches under the same project are integrating both practical and theoretical elements in their approach.
210 people (130 males and 80 females) patronized the sessions that took place at Matawa Primary School ground on 25 November, 2025.
Among the people who attended the sessions are traditional leaders, head teachers, the District Sports Officer for Phalombe, learners, and community members.
The project is being implemented for a period of 18 months in Phalombe and Machinga districts.
