Machinga concluded this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in style at a function held on 9 December at Nsanama Primary School in the district.
The event was marked by powerful messages highlighting the urgent need to address all forms of violence, including the rising threat of cyberbullying.
The ceremony was graced by the Third Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Honourable Ester Jolobala MP. In her keynote address, she stated that children and young people are increasingly exposed to online harassment, harmful content, and cyber exploitation. Hon. Jolobala explained that these issues must be addressed through awareness, policy, and community engagement.
YONECO showcased its work in GBV prevention and response through its pavilion, which displayed its community programmes, youth-friendly services, child protection initiatives, and renowned helpline services (116 for children and 5600 for GBV support).
