YONECO has urged women, girls and children in Rumphi to report abuse and seek help during a youth-led open day held at Chandamale Youth Club in the district.
The event was organized by Rumphi Youth Network, the event brought together youths, traditional leaders, civil society organizations and government officials to promote child protection and the prevention of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
The District Youth Officer (DYO) called on young people to avoid risky behaviours that could affect their health and future.
YONECO showcased its work in preventing abuse, school dropout and violence, while also promoting the National Tithandizane Helpline Services as a safe channel for reporting abuse. YONECO encouraged chiefs and parents to promote positive social norms that protect vulnerable groups.
Group Village Head (GVH) Chatumbwa welcomed the initiative and pledged to support the development of community by-laws in order to strengthen the protection of women, girls and children.
The event featured drama, traditional songs, and dances that also conveyed the protection messages.
