Data from YONECO’s Tithandizane Helpline Services shows that cases of Gender-Based Violence (#GBV) tend to rise during the festive season, mainly due to factors such as substance abuse and excessive alcohol consumption. The data further indicates that women and girls remain the most affected.

In response, YONECO has intensified community engagement activities aimed at strengthening local social protection systems to help prevent abuse during the festive period.

During the awareness sessions, participants are being encouraged to report GBV cases to relevant authorities and ensure survivors access psychosocial support. Community members are also sensitized on various forms of GBV, available reporting channels and the harmful effects of violence.

Tithandizane Helpline Services provides information on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and responds to cases of GBV and violence against children through its 24-hour toll-free lines: Child Helpline (116), GBV Crisis Line (5600), and Youth Helpline (393).
