YONECO joined the Chikwawa District Social Cash Transfer during a Skills and Development monitoring visit to the areas of Traditional Authority (T/A) Makhuwira, Lundu and Ngowe in Chikwawa district.

The exercise held from 19 to 21 January 2026 focused on assessing both artisans and students who had graduated from TEVET programmes supported by the Social Protection for Gender Empowerment and Resilience (SP-GEAR) Project.

The visits showed positive progress, as artisans and trainers provided structured mentorship, ensured safe learning environments, and regularly tracked learner progress. The trained young people who were enrolled in trades that matched their interests, indicated that they gained the necessary practical skills to perform independently, boost their confidence and employability.

Overall, the programme has strengthened technical skills, confidence, and well-being among participants
SP-GEAR is a three-year (2024–2026) initiative being funded by UNICEF, the EU, and Ireland to empower women and youth through financial inclusion, vocational training, and social cash transfers.
