YONECO’s newly opened Child Drop-In Centre (DIC) in Mangochi is attracting large numbers of children and offering renewed hope to parents who have long called for a safe and supportive space for young people within the town.

Located in a busy neighbourhood, the facility sits close to entertainment venues and other spaces often linked to risky behaviours and environments that can expose children to exploitation and other forms of harm. For many residents, these surroundings have long raised concerns about children’s safety and wellbeing.

The centre, however, is changing that narrative by providing a secure and welcoming environment where children can learn, receive guidance, and participate in positive activities away from harmful influences. The centre offers structured programmes designed to promote personal development, protection, and life skills, giving children a place where they feel safe, valued, and supported.

Parents and community members have expressed relief and appreciation for the initiative, noting that the presence of the facility in the heart of town makes it easily accessible to those who need it most.
