On 26 January 2026, YONECO’s Tithandizane Helpline Services team visited Magobo Private Secondary School to talk openly about the dangers of drug and substance abuse.

The session aimed to help learners understand the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and how it affects their health, behavior, academic performance, and future goals.

During the discussion, a YONECO officer advised learners to avoid drugs such as African hemp and alcohol, especially while in school, as substance abuse can lead to poor academic results, mental health problems, teenage pregnancies, and school dropouts.

The session was lively and inspiring, with learners actively participating and asking questions not only about substance abuse but also about career guidance, saying they felt motivated because the facilitators appeared young and relatable, which made the message easier to understand and connect with.

The learners expressed appreciation for the session, while the headteacher commended YONECO for the timely intervention and strongly recommended that more sessions be conducted at the school. YONECO shared its toll-free helpline number, 6600, which learners can use to seek free and confidential support. The organization will continue conducting similar sessions in schools to empower learners to make positive choices and stay focused on their education and future careers.
