Officers from YONECO’s Tithandizane Helpline Services visited Zomba Prison Youth Club, where they engaged with young people on mental health issues in a bid to promote their wellbeing.
The club, which comprises children of Malawi Prison Service staff stationed at Zomba Central Prison and young people from surrounding communities, was meeting for the first time this year following staff transfers that occurred in 2025.
The visit provided an opportunity for officers to engage with members, share experiences, and discuss issues affecting young people.
During the session, facilitators equipped participants with practical knowledge and skills to manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. Discussions focused on recognizing signs of emotional distress, reducing stigma around mental health, and encouraging youths to seek support when needed.
The interactive session created a safe space for open dialogue through group discussions and question-and-answer segments, allowing participants to share personal experiences and learn coping strategies.
