YONECO conducted a child rights and responsibilities awareness session at Matiti Primary School in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mwambo in Zomba district.

The session focused on educating learners about their civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights as enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The session further emphasised the importance of personal responsibility in achieving academic and life goals.

Facilitators reminded learners that every child, regardless of background or gender, has the right to education and the responsibility to attend school regularly and participate actively in class.

In his remarks, the school’s headteacher commended YONECO for the visit and requested the organisation to organise more sessions to help address challenges such as child marriage, school dropout, and juvenile delinquency, which continue to affect learners’ academic progress.

The session reached 863 learners (527 girls and 336 boys).
