Some households in the area of Traditional Authority Mabuka, Mulanje, benefiting from the Social Cash Transfer Programme (SCTP) continue to struggle to manage balanced meals due to limited nutritional knowledge.
In response, YONECO, in collaboration with the District Development Office under the SP-GEAR Project, engaged Savings and Loans groups on nutrition, food fortification, and proper child feeding practices.
Participants were encouraged to establish backyard gardens and make informed food choices, including the use of fortified foods such as Likuni Phala, iodised salt, fortified maize flour, and vitamin A-enriched cooking oil.
The initiative is helping families utilise cash transfers more effectively while improving household nutrition, particularly for pregnant women and children under five.
A total of 146 community members attended the session.
