As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen peace and social cohesion, the District Peace and Unity Committee (DPUC) today successfully mediated a dispute at GVH Moto in TA Chowe.
The mediation session was conducted in a peaceful and constructive atmosphere, bringing together community leaders and stakeholders to resolve the matter amicably.
In their remarks, the District Commissioner (DC) and the DPUC Chairperson emphasized the importance of dialogue and mutual respect in resolving conflicts, particularly those related to religious harmony. They reminded participants that every citizen has the constitutional right to worship freely without interference.
A Community Policing Officer from Mangochi Police Station also highlighted the important role of chiefs in promoting peace within their communities. Chiefs were encouraged to remain impartial, inclusive, and fair, ensuring that all voices are heard.
YONECO, as a member of the DPUC, commended the youth for demonstrating maturity and a willingness to work with community leaders while advocating for their rights and development concerns. Young people were encouraged to continue using peaceful and appropriate channels to seek guidance and support.
YONECO also appreciated the chiefs for their openness to dialogue and their commitment to engaging constructively with their communities. Leaders were encouraged to continue providing positive guidance and mentorship so that young people can grow into responsible citizens and future leaders.
