On 18 April, YONECO conducted a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness session in Chitipa, reaching 28 women with information aimed at strengthening their understanding of GBV, survivor support, and available reporting pathways.

During the session, participants were sensitised on different forms of GBV, including physical, emotional, sexual, and economic abuse. The participants also received information on support services available to survivors, including Police Victim Support Units, Social Welfare Offices, and YONECO’s toll-free GBV Crisis Helpline.

The session facilitators further emphasized the importance of challenging victim-blaming attitudes and promoting respectful relationships within families and communities.

One of the participants welcomed the initiative, saying, “Many women suffer in silence because they do not know where to seek help. Today’s session has given us the confidence to speak out, support survivors, and report violence.”
