The NASFEST International Youth Cultural Festival 2026 is currently underway in Malawi, bringing together young people and cultural groups from across Africa, including Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ghana, and Botswana.
Hosted by the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, the festival is running under the theme “Moto wa Chikhalidwe: Create. Connect. Conserve.” The festival aims to promote cultural exchange, creativity, and youth-led development while strengthening regional ties.
Leading Malawi’s cultural charge is the YONECO Cultural Troupe, a headline act proudly representing the nation on this international stage. With electrifying performances and authentic displays of Malawi’s heritage, the troupe is captivating audiences both in Salima and in Lilongwe, where activities continue through to 3 May 2026.
From the lakeshore to the capital city, the YONECO Cultural Troupe is ensuring Malawi’s cultural identity shines brightly throughout the entire festival, while actively engaged in other activities such as workshops, games and networking.
The festival opened with a vibrant launch at Sunbird Livingstonia Beach Hotel, followed by activities such as the Lake Malawi excursion and a Bonfire Cultural Night featuring traditional performances and the display of national flags. Main events are continuing in Lilongwe, including live music, fashion and art exhibitions, networking sessions, and a street carnival.
The event Organisers have emphasized the importance of platforms like NASFEST in preserving culture, fostering unity, and unlocking opportunities within the creative economy, with youth playing a central role as custodians of African heritage.
