From 6th to 9th May 2026, YONECO), with support from Islamic Relief and in collaboration with the District Social Welfare and Gender Office, conducted post-distribution monitoring of cash transfers to households affected by the March 2026 flash floods in Chikwawa.
The exercise assessed the effectiveness of the intervention and identified ongoing community needs, reaching 401 people, including 129 men and 281 women. Communities also received sensitization on climate change, disaster preparedness, Gender-Based Violence (#GBV), child protection, accountability, and transparency in humanitarian assistance.
During the exercise, community members were encouraged to report GBV cases and human rights violations through YONECO’s Tithandizane toll-free Helplines. YONECO further emphasized the need for stronger child protection systems, environmental conservation, and collective action to build resilience against future disasters.
