On 17 July, YONECO conducted a hygiene and sanitation awareness session at Khumula Primary School in Lilongwe. The session provided learners with essential knowledge and practical skills to promote healthy living and a clean school environment.
The session focused on the importance of regular handwashing with soap, bathing, brushing teeth, wearing clean clothes, and maintaining clean surroundings. Learners were also taught proper sanitation practices, including correct toilet use, safe waste disposal, and the dangers of open defecation in preventing diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, and typhoid.
The interactive session encouraged learners to ask questions, share experiences, and demonstrate proper handwashing techniques, helping them understand the importance of hygiene in their daily lives.
YONECO emphasized that good hygiene and sanitation are essential for preventing illness, improving school attendance, and creating a safe and healthy learning environment. Learners promised to practice the lessons learned and share the knowledge with their families and communities.
