YONECO stepped up efforts to prevent teen pregnancies and HIV among young people by providing peer educators from various youth clubs across Traditional Authority (T/A) Mapira with practical knowledge on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) and healthy decision-making.
The session focused on adolescent development, healthy relationships, family planning, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and the importance of accessing Youth-Friendly Health Services (YFHS). Participants were also introduced to YONECO’s toll-free Youth Helpline, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) helpline, as well as the Drug and Substance Abuse Hotline.
“This session has helped to elucidate common misconceptions about sexual and reproductive health. We will take it from here to promote safer choices and increased use of health services among our peers,” said Upile Makumba, a peer educator from Kawanga Youth Club.
