Youth Net and counseling (YONECO) will on the 18th of February, 2014 hold a consultative meeting on ending Child Marriages in Zomba district. The organisation has invited eminent institutions that are renowned with mitigation of child rights violations and in particular child marriages in the district.

The Consultative Meeting on Ending Child Marriage follows successful Child Marriage Symposia that were held at national and regional levels.  Among the recommendations that emanated from a Regional Child Marriage Symposiumthat was organized by YONECO and GENET

was that there is need for collective efforts towards ending child marriages in the communities. This is in view of the fact that child marriages are happening as a result of a number of factors which cannot be solved by isolated interventions.

It is against this background that YONECO and Save the Children saw the need to establish a forum that should target the elimination of child marriage in Zomba.

The Consultative Meeting on Ending Child Marriage in Zomba district will be held at Peter’s Lodge and it has drawn representatives of various CSOs; local and religious leaders; the academia; the media; Zomba Police Officers; Officials  from the ministry of Youth and Sports Development as well as officials from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare.
