25 young people (10 Females; 15 Males) from the area of   Group Village Head (GVH) Kalonga in Nkhata Bay district are expected to realise over MK 150,000 as proceeds from their farming activities year.

This was revealed during a supportive visit which YONECO and officers from Chikwina Agricultural Extension Planning Area (EPA) conducted.

As a way of promoting youth agribusiness initiatives in Malawi, YONECO introduced farming activities in various youth clubs around Nkhata Bay district. YONECO Field Officers with support from Chikwina (EPA) trained the young people in Horticulture as well as agribusiness. Furthermore, YONCO provided the club with farm inputs including seeds, pesticides and fertilizer.

So far, the young people have grown a number of crops including tomatoes which have produced health fruits . So far, the young people have been linked to various lead farmers, extension workers as well as potential markets.
