YONECO, in conjunction with the Malawi Police Service, conducted various joint advocacy sessions with various community structures in order to strengthen community systems towards ending child marriage in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mduwa in Mchinj district.

Among other structures, the meetings attracted members of various structures including community policing, Community Village Support Units (VSUs), mother groups, village development committees (VDCs) as well as traditional leaders and their spouses.

The sessions led to a number of action points that were agreed by all parties in order to deal with the problem of child marriage in the area.

Mchinji is one of the districts which have high prevalence rates of child marriages in Malawi.
