Light for Youth Creative Organization (LYCO) hailed YONECO Cultural Troupe for their role in the National Arts Schools’ festival that took place in Lilongwe.
During the festival YONECO Cultural troupe had a chance to showcase two traditional dances namely Tchopa and sekhele.
“We were happy to have YONEO Cultural Troupe at this year’s festival and they did impress, we hope to have them back next year” said James Kitchen the director for LYCO.
This was the first time for YONECO Cultural troupe to take part in the event which run under the theme “Youth in Action against harmful cultural practice.”
“As YONECO Cultural Troupe we are happy that we were given the opportunity to interact with the youth. We managed to take the opportunity to raise awareness on some of the harmful cultural practices that are affecting the youth and society at large,” said Bright Chayachaya – YONECO Cultural Troupe Coordinator.
NASFEST is an initiative that is being championed by LYCO annual and has been in existence for 10 years. The main aim is to offer the youth a platform for expressing themselves, and it awards groups and individuals who have done exceptionally well in the arts sector.
