YONECO with, support from UNICEF, has oriented members of community protection structures in some camps within Phalombe district on Sexual Exploitation, Child Protection, prevention of Gender Based Violence (GBV), usage of Complaints and Feedback Mechanisms (CFM), as well as provision of Psycho-social support.

The trainings reached out to 40 leaders (21 women and 19 men) from various community structures including: disaster evacuation camp committees, Community Policing Forum, Child Protection Workers, Area Development Committees (ADC), Village Development Committees (VDC), Village Civil Protection Committee (VCPC) and traditional leaders.

Collaboration with key stakeholders was highlighted as officers from Police, District Social Welfare and Gender office. Malawi Council for the Handicapped (MACOHA), also took part in equipping the community leaders on how they can support and consider people with disabilities,

The exercise was conducted in the areas of Traditional Authorities (T/A) Jenala and T/A Nkhulambe across 4 camps. The targeted areas have a combined population of about 11,888 people of which the majority are women and children.
