YONECO has trained its Helpline Counsellors and Field Officers on how they can effectively respond to Gender Based Violence (GBV) in disasters amidst COVID 19.
YONECO’s Tithandizane Helpline Service is one of the reliable information hubs among community members in Malawi. The service has toll-free lines that are dedicated to GBV response, Child Helpline as well as Drug and Substance Hotline.
In his remarks during the opening of the training, the Executive Director for YONECO, MacBain Mkandawire, stated that COVID 19 is a health issue which is also expected to cause a number of socio-economic problems which will fuel other challenges especially GBV. Thus, Mkandawire reminded all the participants that the role of YONECO is to respond to such issues in a systematic and unquestionable manner.
The team among other topics, the team was drilled in GBV response in humanitarian response, case management as well as Minimum Standards for GBV response in emergencies.
