Young people in Rumphi district have commended YONECO for organizing Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) sessions which have equipped them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing.
During the sessions, YONECO used various interactive materials in order to impart the young people with necessary and consistent information on prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) including HIV. The young people also accessed pregnancy and contraceptive counselling.
According to the STI Coordinator for Rumphi District Hospital, there is an increase of STI cases among people. YONECO District Manager for Rumphi, George Mbizi, described this as a red flag and avowed to intensify community-based SRH sessions for young people.
Young people who live within Rumphi town are better off because they get information and other SRH services through our Youth Drop-In-Centre. As such, we will organize more sessions for those who cannot access our centre because of distance” explained Mbizi.
In his remarks, one of the young people who attended the sessions, Gomezgani Gondwe, expressed his gratitude to YONECO for the sessions.
“We thank YONECO for this initiative and I would like to urge the institution to continue with such interventions in order to save the lives of many young people”, said Gomezgani.
