Today marks the final day of three-day refresher training sessions for Parent-Child Communication (PCC) Facilitators which YONECO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sport, organized in Dedza and Mchinji districts.
One of the trained PCC Facilitators, Genesis Moyenda from the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mduwa Mchinji, explained that PCC is key in creating a home atmosphere where open dialogue, understanding, and mutual support between parents and children reign. Moyenda added that in such family environments, adolescents cannot be forced into marriage or make uninformed decisions.
“Children who are raised in families where there is an open communication with their parents often enjoy their youth and successfully transition into adulthood. This training has equipped me with more energy and strategies to enhance overall communication dynamics between parents and their children,” proclaimed Moyenda.
Promotion of parent-child communication is among the key interventions which YONECO is implementing to enhance the fulfilment of adolescent girls’ sexual and reproductive health and rights under Action for Teen Mothers and Adolescent Girls Project. The project is being implemented with financial and technical support from #KOICA and UNFPA Malawi
