On 18th November 2024, YONECO in collaboration with the National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) conducted an awareness session on mental health issues with Form 3 and 4 students at Nyika Progressive Private Secondary School.
The session was aimed at equipping the students with practical strategies and coping mechanisms to manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. During the sessions, the students were encouraged to seek help when they had issues.
The session further focused on issues of drug and substance abuse. The students had a number of questions regarding mental health challenges and drug and substance abuse.
The facilitators from YONECO and NICE responded to the questions which the students posed. The two organizations have scheduled additional mental health awareness sessions in other secondary schools across the district.
