Memory Namoyo, Chairperson of the Mkhumba Child Protection Committee, has always worked hard to protect women and children. However, she struggled with handling and following up on cases.
Thanks to a four-day training that was organized by YONECO in Phalombe from 19 to 22 November, 2024, Memory now has the essential skills to manage cases and ensure proper support for survivors of abuse.
The training which focused on strengthening the capacity of district and community protection structures in GBV case management was funded by UN Women through Sustaining Community Women Movement for Peace Building and Humanitarian Response Project. With her new knowledge, Memory has avowed to contribute towards creating a safer community for everyone.
“We now have the capacity to ensure that no child or woman suffers in silence. Together, we will build a community where every person feels safe and valued,” she said.
YONECO is implementing the project in the areas of Traditional Authority (TA) Mizinga and Sitola in Machinga as well as Kaduya and Mkumba Phalombe districts. The project aims to enhance the participation of women in conflict prevention responses
