Ntcheu District Social Welfare Officer, Rodwell Chunga, has called on community leaders to ensure that beneficiaries of social cash transfers are not excluded from receiving other forms of social protection support.
He made the plea on Tuesday during the ongoing case management training under the Social Protection for Gender Empowerment and Resilience (SP GEAR) project in Ntcheu.
Chunga emphasized that while social cash transfers provide crucial financial assistance, the amount is often insufficient to cover the daily needs of beneficiaries.
Therefore, he urged community leaders to avoid discriminating against these individuals by excluding them from other community interventions.
“Social cash transfer funds are limited, and community leaders must recognize that excluding beneficiaries from other forms of support is both discriminatory and harmful,” Chunga said.
The SP GEAR project, which is being implemented by Youth Net and Counselling (YONECO), is funded by the European Union and Irish Aid through UNICEF.
A similar training is taking place in Mulanje as part of the project’s protection component.
