In a bid to enhance transparency and accountability to communities affected by El Niño-induced hunger, YONECO engaged communities in Blantyre, where CADECOM, one of the implementing partners of the Malawi Drought Response Project, was disbursing social cash transfer funds at Chigalu and Kunthembwe.
The engagement was aimed at raising awareness about the rights of the project’s beneficiaries and the available Complaints and Feedback Mechanisms (CFMs) that have been put in place under the project.
Beneficiaries Elifa Gonthi (79) and Edson Chiwaka (75) from Chiwaya village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chigalu, expressed their gratitude and explained that the funds will greatly alleviate the severe hunger they have been experiencing.
The Malawi Drought Response Project is being funded by ECHO and it aims to addresses severe food insecurity and malnutrition in eight districts of Malawi that were affected by El Nino. The project is being implemented by a consortium of CARE, Self Help Africa, Njira Impact, CARD, Eagles Relief, CADECOM, Save the Children and YONECO.
In this project, YONECO is responsible for managing the component of enhancing Accountability to the Affected Populations (AAP).
