Today, Andrew Winkelman, the US Embassy Political and Economic Counselor who is also the Deputy US Ambassador to Malawi, visited the YONECO Head Office in Zomba.

Top on the agenda was for him to understand YONECO’s perspective on youth in relation to the political and economic situation in the country.

The two parties discussed how the youth can be agents of change rather than being used as hooligans, and the need to empower them to refrain from being exploited by greedy politicians for their personal gain.

The meeting also discussed how the high rates of unemployment among the youth are negatively contributing to increased cases of corruption as well as drug and substance abuse among other things.
