YONECO conducted a two-day training of men and boys on Barbershop Toolkit that was held at Liwonde, Mchinga, from 22 to 23 July 2025.

The training aimed at empowering the participants to champion gender equality, challenge harmful norms and promote positive change in the areas of Traditional Authorities (T/A) Sitola and Mizinga, Machinga.

The training is expected to promote positive masculinities by engaging men and boys as active allies in advancing gender equality, peaceful coexistence, and shared leadership. The participants were also equipped with practical skills for facilitating peer dialogues and promotion of male-led advocacy against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and harmful cultural practices.

Ten male community champions participated in the training, and they will serve as peer trainers to cascade the knowledge and skills to other men and boys in their respective communities.

The training was conducted under titled “Sustaining Community Women’s Movement for Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Response Project” which is being funded by the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) through UN Women.
