Through our office in Ntcheu district, we have trained female prisoners in production of reusable sanitary pads.
The activity was organised in response to a call by Ntcheu Prison authorities who requested for support towards the procurement of re-usable sanitary pads for the female inmates
As such, our team employed a more sustainable approach by equipping the women with necessary skills on how to make reusable sanitary pads. Further to this, the training also doubled as an awareness session on various aspects pertaining to Menstrual Health Management (MHM).
The Officer in Charge for Ntcheu Prison commended YONECO for the training which he described as a huge step towards the promotion of the welfare of female inmates. The officer in charge further added that the skills will also be handy as the women could use them to earn money when they are released from prison.
In his remarks, Ntcheu District Gender Officer said the training will help the female prisoners to prevent infections as they were previously using dirty materials to manage their menstrual periods.
“I really appreciate this training because the pads which am sewing is well sustained than supporting us with pads from the shops,” said one of the inmates.
