On 23 November 2024, YONECO participated in a solidarity march which marked the end of this year’s 19 Days of Activism for the Prevention of Violence and Abuse Against Children and Youth.
The exercise, which aimed at amplifying the voices of children, was concluded with the submission of a petition on various child protection issues to Zomba District Council.
The petition focused on the need to enhance children’s access to quality healthcare services, their participation in decision-making, access to quality education, and meaningful involvement in climate change prevention and mitigation efforts.
The petition was received by the Social Welfare Officer for Zomba on behalf of the District Council.
The activity was organized by the University of Malawi – UNIMA, Faculty of Law.
Participants in the solidarity march also included students and members of staff from University of Malawi – UNIMA, as well as students from Likangala and Chilunga Secondary Schools, and learners from Matiya and Mponda Primary Schools.
