Malawi joined the rest of the globe in the launch of the 2024 – 16 Days of Activisms Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Campaign at a function that was held at Mpasa Community Day Secondary School in Phalombe district.

Among others, the event served as a critical focusing point to galvanize efforts, resources, and attention towards ending GBV in the country. In addition, the function created a platform for increasing public awareness about the prevalence and impact of GBV in Malawi.

The function was presided over by the First Lady of the Republic of Malawi, Madame Monica Chakwera. Other notable individuals who attended the function include the Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Hon. Jean Sendeza and the Executive Director of YONECO, MacBain Mkandawire.

The function started with a solidarity march that was led by the Malawi Police Band. The function was spiced up by a number of activities including drama performances and traditional dances that were interspersed between speeches.
