On 22 November, 2024, YONECO, in partnership with Operation Mobilization provided free lunch for street-connected children in Machinga district.
The initiative was conceived to offer social support and to raise awareness about child rights among the street-connected children. In addition, the initiative sought to build partnerships and to promote the well-being and rights of vulnerable children in the district.
The children served with a variety of food stuffs including nsima, eggs, and vegetables. The meals were not just rich in nutrition but they were also served with love.
There are a lot of children in Malawi who call the streets their home. YONECO, through its Child Development and Protection Programme initiates rehabilitation and repatriation of children whose homes and relatives have been identified.
Children who are connected to streets face a lot of problems including hunger, sexual abuse and many others are forced into drugs and criminal activities.
