YONECO Children’s Band that is comprised of children on the street performed during the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the protocol on African Charter on Women’s Rights. The kids band led the audience in playing African Union and Malawi national anthems.

They also performed a number of songs from their first and second albums. The President of Malawi Dr. Joyce Banda, President of Mozambique and African Union Chairperson Dr. Zuma attended the event.

YONECO Kids band were invited to perform at the event through the Ministry of Gender. The band which is based in Zomba has been in Lilongwe from Saturday 10th August preparing and practicing the national anthems together with Scouts and Malawi Girl Guides.   YONECO has been counselling and empowering vulnerable children since 2003. In 2005 the organization started building the capacity of children on the streets as one way of creating self reliance among them.
