YONECO has extended its reach under Sports for Development Initiative by donating Football and Netball kits to Nawungu Primary School.

The donation came a few weeks after the Executive Director for YONECO came across a group of young people in school uniforms marching along Zomba – Lilongwe Road. This stirred his interest and he was told that the boys are from a primary school in Machinga district who organized the big walk to raise funds in order to buy a football jersey for their school team.

“I was touched with their determination and the cause was worth our support hence I pledged that YONECO will do the needful. Through sports; young people learn a lot of things like team work, leadership skills and resilience on top of ensuring that they are physically fit,” said Mkandawire.

In his remarks; the Sports Master for Nawungu Primary School, Ernest Kaliyati, stated thanked YONECO for the gesture which he described as a great contribution to the lives of learners at the school. Kaliyati further stated that the kits will motivate the leaners to take part in sporting activities and evade indulging in bad behaviors.

YONECO uses sports as a tool for imparting knowledge and life skills in young people. Apart from donating the kits to Nawungu Primary School, YONECO also extended a similar gesture to young people of Mapale Township in Zomba City.
